Design and Analysis - of New Structures & Retrofitting of Existing.

NEW YORK STATE'S  BUILDING CODE HAS BEEN REVISED

Statewide ( except New York City, which has it's own code) New York has adopted an entirely new building code based on the 2000 International Codes as published by the International Code Council. The most dramatic change is the code's minimum wind-load requirements. They have increased from 75 mph to 90 mph for most of the state, and to 110 mph to 120 mph for Long Island and other coastal area's.

The following figures show the different pressures and suctions a garage space with just a single garage door experiences from strong winds.

New buildings as well as retrofits need to be designed to resist:

(1) Overturning

(2) Sliding

(3) Uplift
